I saw Muse at the North Greenwich Arena tonight. Mostly amazing, but I might go into that in another post.
The Joy Formidable were supporting and sounded really good, which was especially impressive once Ritzy Bryan revealed that she had lost her voice the previous day to the extent that they’d had to cancel a show.
When they played most recent single “Cholla”, I thought to myself that its riff sounded more powerful than I remembered and particularly arena suitable. Despite differing a little from Muse’s all bombastic all the time approach, they struck me as a better choice and fit than I’d realised.
After they finished that song I overheard the woman next to me say to her companion, with what sounded like vague disappointment, ‘it’s weird that they chose a support band with a female singer’.
