Sydney’s Deep Sea Arcade generally deal in a kind of lightweight psychedelic guitar pop that makes their album as a whole extremely listenable but not very memorable. It is bookended by two fantastic songs though, where they go much heavier on atmosphere and groove to fine effect. “Airbulance” is the final track and the one place where the ‘deep sea’ part of their name is most appropriate. It reminds me of Doves in their heyday through its thick and deep waves of sound (especially that amazing bulging bassline), though setting Nic McKensie’s high and cracked vocals against that gives their own spin.
