Singles Jukebox Jan-March 2012 stats
At The Singles Jukebox we have reviewed 195 songs in the first quarter of 2012, with Usher’s “Climax” our highest scorer so far with 8.40. I have a spreadsheet with details of all of the reviews! I have done some quick analysis.
No guarantees that the data is completely accurate. Just in the process of putting this together I realised that I’d counted Swedish House Mafia as...

There’s another thing I have noticed in the past couple of weeks, w/r/t Trayvon Martin, the flap about Rue in The Hunger Games (I can’t even with that ridiculousness — ” ‘I can’t’ - Tumblr”) and now this. Racists legitimately think that being called “racist” is an insult on par with an actual racial slur. It’s gotten to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if a literal white...

This article about people taking photos of food is titled as if to suggest that there is a backlash and has an intro asking ‘we in danger of losing the ability to simply enjoy a meal?’. Yet it never really explains why the people doing so aren’t enjoying their meal, or offers anything on the against side apart from a couple of bans in high end restaurants and the contention that...

What bugs me about concepts like Steak & Blowjob Day is the notion of relationship-as-chore, the whole notion that there has to be some “payback” for Valentine’s Day. Which I know is commoditized to all hell and given an importance that tends to overshadow-to-ruin the emotions that are supposed to be at the core of the gestures expressed—I guess that’s why it’s seen as being “for...

2) Not that I’m not onboard with the core of what Nick Southall actually meant, but doesn’t titling the post “Why does everybody hate Patrick Wolf?” suggest that his young female fans are not included in everybody? That one unformed teenage girl is, perhaps, only 10-15% of an “indie pop/rock fan”? It’s all the little unthinking moves like this that add up to the big skew, you...

Via various discussions on Patrick Wolf: a tool that plots the audience gender and age skews of your top Last.fm artists. Apparently it made the rounds a while back, but I totally missed it.
(Syntax example for looking at someone else’s plot: http://playground.last.fm/demo/genderplot?users=Petronia&period=overall&artists=50)
