Albums of 2011
My ten favourite albums of the year as revealed over on my blog. Note that when I came up with the title for the list on there I had Pro Evolution Soccer and not Charlie Sheen in mind and only realised the latter later, if that makes it any better. 1. Patrick Wolf - Lupercalia 2. Emmy the Great - Virtue 3. Einar Stray - Chiaroscuro 4. Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys! 5. Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes ...

Singles of 2011
As constructed for the Freaky Trigger Readers’ Poll 2011, my favourite singles of the year. The only change from what I submitted for that is that I realised afterwards that I had forgotten “Brillante”, so Einar Stray’s “Chiaroscuro” had to drop off the bottom. Links are to Singles Jukebox posts or videos where there isn’t one. Also available as a Spotify...

maura: WHO’S LAUGHING NOW, INDEED. I actually hate both “Nobody’s Perfect” and “Who You Are” more, but neither of those were nearly as unavoidable so I agree on “Price Tag” as most infuriating song of 2011, and basically everything that Maura says. As well as those who replied and said that the TOTP performance was the worst.

2011 Yearbook: June Jukebox
microphoneheartbeats: June was apparently the month where despite only being active for two weeks, TSJ managed to cover pretty much nothing except for songs that I adore, prompting me to write a lot of blurbs that I didn’t hate (specifically, Patrick Wolf). Patrick Wolf - “House” - 30 Jun 2011 I’ll admit at the outset that it is completely impossible for me to be remotely objective about...

The really interesting X Factor related single in the UK charts this week is not the inevitable number one for X Factor winners Little Mix. It’s not Leona Lewis’ covers EP or Olly Murs’ continuing success. It’s the one song in the midweek top 4 which isn’t by an X Factor contestant - Coldplay’s “Paradise”. It’s a song by possibly the most...

A few people I know have been getting upset about the X Factor winners releasing a cover of “Cannonball” by Damien Rice. I still have a lot of affection for O, and he is responsible for one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to (as well as, later, one of the most disheartening gigs - a step up in venue size really didn’t suit him). However I find it very difficult to see the...

on Zelda and getting lost
I have a really terrible sense of direction. This is sometimes exacerbated by not putting enough effort into being observant of my surroundings and relying too much on following other people, but even when I do pay attention I still have a lot of trouble. It can get pretty awkward when most other people in work or social situations have expectations of at least some basic level of being able to...

Indie Royale Really Big Bundle →
Five indie games, three of which I have heard good things about already (Eufloria and the two RPG parody ones), for less than five pounds? Great! Now I just need to find time to play them between Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, various writing, job…
